Our tours start from Boca de Tomatlan, a traditional little fishing village 12 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, where you will be met by Captain Beto. Beto speaks good English, is friendly and accommodating, knows the area really well and is committed to making sure you have a great day. As our main aim is to keep you away from the crowds, we set off from Boca as early as you can make it – usually around 9am. This ensures that all our stops – for snorkeling, hiking and lunch – take place before everyone else arrives!
From Boca we head to Los Arcos (The Arches) – an underwater park and eco-reserve made up of a group of granite rock formations, with caves that have been sculpted out by the ocean over thousands of years – for the first of two snorkeling stops. There you will see and swim with a variety of fish - amongst them the beautiful angel fish. Thanks to their passion for Bimbo bread (of which we carry vast supplies!) there is never a shortage of fish!
From Los Arcos we begin our cruise southwards. We'll pass Mismaloya, the location for "Night of The Iguana", the movie that put Puerto Vallarta on the map. Along the coast to Boca you'll see scattered along the cliff edge many beautiful homes. A glimpse of how the other half lives!
From Boca southwards you'll begin to see a Mexico that is more elusive – idyllic little coves and unspoilt beaches, the traditional palapa roof houses of the local people. Along the way we'll serve you drinks and snacks to keep the munchies at bay!
Our first stop is at Quimixto, a little Mexican village accessible only by boat. There we leave the boat in the safe hands of our captain, Beto, while we enjoy a walk through the village and a 20 minute hike to a beautiful waterfall to enjoy a refreshing swim. Along the way you will see village children playing, local women doing laundry in the river, dogs and roosters roaming free and horses waiting to carry less energetic visitors to the waterfall.
From Quimixto we cruise further south before stopping to snorkel at Majahuitas, a beautiful area just off the exclusive Majahuitas resort. The water is crystal clear and a beautiful green so the snorkeling here is fantastic! If you prefer just to swim you'll still enjoy the many varieties of tropical fish that love this area too!
By now you'll be ready for some lunch and we take you to Las Animas to enjoy a tasty lunch in one of the lovely beach restaurants. As you are enjoying some good food, you can relax and watch the world go by.
Lunch is included in the cost of the tour. Drinks are extra.
When you are feeling suitably refreshed, we begin our trip back to Boca. Usually our guests are pleasantly tired by this point (around 5 PM) and want nothing more to head back to their accommodation for a late siesta! For those not ready to leave our little piece of paradise, Boca has a few beach restaurants where you can enjoy a cerveza or cocktail before reluctantly heading for town. |

Snorkeling equipment, a snack on the boat with chips, beverages, bottled water, sodas, beer and RAICILLA! (a very strong homemade mexican liquor!) Lunch on the beach at Las Animas is also included in the tour cost. Drinks on the beach are extra.
